How to Log In with DigiD

There are typically two main ways to log in using your DigiD:

1. Using Your Username and Password

This is the basic login method. When you visit a website that requires DigiD, you'll be redirected to the DigiD login page. Here you enter the username and password you created during your DigiD application. For many services, this is sufficient.

2. Using the DigiD App (Recommended)

The official DigiD app offers the highest level of security and convenience. After downloading and activating the app on your smartphone or tablet, you can log in more easily:

1. On the website requiring DigiD, choose the option "Log in with DigiD app".
2. Open the DigiD app on your phone.
3. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen using the app, or enter a short code.
4. Enter your personal PIN code in the app.
5. You are now logged in.

Essential Online Services You Can Access with DigiD

Your activated DigiD is your digital key to a wide range of critical services:

• Belastingdienst (Tax and Customs Administration):

  Manage your income tax affairs, check tax assessments, apply for allowances (healthcare, rent, childcare), and view your tax history via Mijn Belastingdienst.

• MijnOverheid.nl (My Government):

  This central portal provides an overview of your data registered with various government bodies. You can access your 'Berichtenbox' (digital mailbox for government mail), view your BRP data, driving license information, pension overviews, and more. Highly recommended to set this up.

• Healthcare Providers & Insurers:

  Log in to your health insurer's portal to view policy details, submit claims, or check your deductible (eigen risico). Some GP practices or hospital portals also allow you to access medical records or make appointments using DigiD.

• UWV (Employee Insurance Agency):

  Apply for or manage unemployment benefits (WW-uitkering), parental leave benefits, or other social security benefits.

• Gemeente (Municipality) Services:

  Update your registered address, request official extracts (e.g., from the BRP), report changes in your household, or apply for municipal permits via your local municipality's website.

• DUO (Education Executive Agency):

  For students, manage student finance, tuition fees, and other educational matters.

• Pension Funds:

  Access your personal pension overview and accumulated pension rights from various funds.

Managing Your DigiD Account

It's important to keep your DigiD secure and up-to-date:

• Update Contact Details: Ensure your registered mobile phone number and email address linked to your DigiD are current. These are vital for recovery and verification.

• Forgot Username/Password: If you forget your credentials, you can request a new activation code via the DigiD website, which will be sent to your registered BRP address.
